Obituary for Joseph Charles "Joe" Tambascio

Joseph Charles "Joe"  Tambascio
Joseph C. Tambascio, 83, of Bethel, CT passed away peacefully on October 4, 2017 at Danbury Hospital.Joe was born on July 22, 1934 in Port Chester, NY to Lawrence and Stella (Sarno) Tambascio. He graduated from Port Chester High School in 1952. Five years later he was drafted into the Army and assigned to the 5th Army Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois. He was honorably discharged and subsequently worked at General Foods Corporation programming mainframe computers. It is there where he met his wife Jean (Homeier) Tambascio. They were married on April 4, 1964. Under the GI Bill, he took night classes and earned his BS in Business Administration from Empire State College in 1975. His career in computer programming and systems continued at the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in Elmsford, NY for 26 years. Joseph and Jean were married for 44 years and they lived in Yorktown Heights and then North Salem, New York and retired to Cape Cod in 1994. His loving wife Jean passed in 2008 and he moved to Bethel, CT in 2010. Outside of his devotion to his family, Joe loved sports and was a diehard Yankees fan. He played tennis and golf and his lifelong hobby was black and white photography. He belonged to various camera clubs in Stamford, Northern Westchester, Candlewood in Danbury, and Cape Cod. He earned many local awards and received a single star award in an international color slide competition from the Photographic Society of America. He is survived by his daughter, Lauren Cunningham, and her husband, Michael, of Bethel, CT (formerly of Redding); his son, Lawrence Tambascio, and his wife, Laura, of Northborough, MA; his four grandchildren: Jaclyn Cunningham, Kevin Cunningham, Robert Tambascio, and Mary Tambascio; as well as four nephews and one niece. Calling hours will be held on Friday October 13, 2017 from 5 to 8 PM at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown, CT 06470. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday October 14, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Mary Parish, 26 Dodgingtown Rd., Bethel, CT 06801. Interment will follow in South Salem Cemetery, South Salem, NY In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Bethel Volunteer Fire Department (38 South Street, Bethel, CT 06801) in Joe’s name.
