Obituary for Margaret Barker "Peg" Donovan

MARGARET BARKER “PEG” DONOVAN, died at The Carolton Convalescent Hospital on February 4, 2014. She was the widow of John W. Donovan. Born on November 16, 1927, the daughter of George H. and Alice Maguire Barker, Peg was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. She worked at Read’s Department Store, the predecessor of Macy’s from where she retired. Peg was previously a Eucharistic minister and president of the Marian Guild at St. Charles Borromeo Church. More recently she attended St. Andrew Church, where she was a lector and a member of the Altar Guild. Peg is survived by her eight children and their spouses: Sharon Donovan of Norwalk; Colleen D. (Daniel) Honan of Newtown; Kelly Donovan (Peter) Carew of West Haven; Shawn (Nancy) Donovan of East Haven; Brian (Lauren) Donovan of Trumbull; Colin (Karen) Donovan of Milford; Kevin (Laura) Donovan of Monroe; and Mary Katherine Donovan of Winter Garden, Florida. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Matthew Donovan, Melissa (Eric) Carbone, Eileen (Arlen) Stabbe, Christopher Donovan, Patrick Honan, Thomas Donovan, Meghan Donovan, Sarah Donovan, Michael Donovan, Grace Donovan, Bryce Donovan, Brendan Carew, Brian Carew, and Brody Donovan; and a great grandson, Tyler Carbone. Peg leaves two sisters: Alice Rowley of Shelton; and Gertrude (Philip) O’Connell of West Hartford; three brothers: William (Sally) Barker of Cheshire; John Barker of Southbury; and Raymond (Doreen) Barker of Baltimore, Maryland and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial (meet directly at church) will be celebrated Friday February 7th at 10:30am in St. Andrew Church, 435 Anton St., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Thursday from 4:00pm to 7:00pm.
