Obituary for Margaret Blair "Peggy" Kane

Margaret Blair Makinney McDonald Kane of Sandy Hook, beloved child of God, went to be with Him at 10:41 p.m. May 11, 2013. She is the firstborn child of Stuart and Margaret Makinney of Chicago, Illinois. She is the beloved mother of Robert McDonald and Mary (McDonald) Brown and Thomas Joseph Kane; fondly known as Grams to her three grandchildren Michael, Anna and Nathan Brown of Sandy Hook, CT. She lived most of her life on her own terms and without apology. Late in life, and to the astonishment of her friends and family, this headstrong woman fell in love with God's own Son, Jesus, and at long last found peace and rest on this earth. Who can really say how we find faith in the Savior, for as Scripture says, "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." However, in Peggy's case we might credit the meeting to Elvis. His gospel music wooed her broken weary heart to the Healer. Though she clung to many things of the world, in the end there was only One without whom she could not go on. She returned to the faith tradition of her youth and daily attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Newtown, Connecticut until her health prevented it. Her devotion was an example and encouragement to many. She is now truly at rest and she is sorely missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday May 16th at 10:00am in St. Rose of Lima church, Newtown. Interment in Bronswood Cemetery, Oakbrook, Illinois will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown Wednesday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
