Mary Calderara, 87, of Newtown, previously of Mt. Vernon, NY, died January 14th at Bethel Healthcare Center. Mary resided in Mt Vernon until relocating with her family to Newtown in 1996. She lived with her son William Calderara and daughter in law Patricia Calderara and her three beloved grandchildren, Derek, Ryan, and Brenna Calderara. Mary was devoted to her family and enjoyed cooking and teaching others to cook. In addition to caring for her family she was active with the senior center and enjoyed playing cards and bingo with her friends. Before retiring to Newtown, Mary was a professional cook for the Franciscan Friars in Mt. Vernon, NY. Her husband of more than 50 years Charles Calderara, predeceased her on December 7, 2006.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, Newtown Wednesday January 18, 2012 at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Rose Cemetery. Friends may call in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown Tuesday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Rose of Lima Memorial Fund, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470.
