Obituary for Michael William Murphy

Michael William Murphy
Michael W. Murphy, age 57, of Sandy Hook, CT passed peacefully on February 21, 2018 after a valiant struggle with cancer. Michael’s strength and courage in the face of adversity has left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He kept a positive outlook and keen sense of humor throughout.

Michael was born in Mt. Kisco, NY on October 12, 1960 to Francis and Patricia (Burkhardt) Murphy. He was raised in Pleasantville, NY, attended Kennedy Catholic HS in Somers, NY, and graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in civil engineering. After college he married his high school sweetheart, Anne Marie (McGowan) (deceased); they moved to the Philippines where he enthusiastically began his 5-year service in the United States Naval Construction Battalions (Seabees). He loved his lifelong work on bridge construction. He had a passion for cars, all things mechanical, attention to details, and made an impressive cheesecake.

He was extremely proud of his four devoted children, Kelly (Rob Harvey), Colleen, Thomas and Paige. He is survived by his sisters, Nancy (Barry) Zezze, Kathy (Frank) Spina, Patty (Joe) Waschek and a large loving family of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and in-laws.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 25 from 2-5pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St, Newtown, CT. The Mass of Christian Burial is on Monday, February 26 at 11am at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Regional Hospice and Palliative Care Center for Comfort Care & Healing, 30 Milestone Road, Danbury, CT 06810, www.regionalhospicect.org or to the charity of your choice.
