Obituary for Michael James "Mike" Walsh

Michael James "Mike"  Walsh
Michael J (Mike)Walsh, 61 of Roxbury died Monday March 26, 2018. He was born January 8, 1957 in Albany, NY and was the treasured husband of 34 years of Nina Bonacci Walsh and the son of the late James P. Walsh and Margaret (Bement) Walsh of Newtown. In addition to his wife and mother, he is also survived by his five much-loved children, one daughter in-law and one grandchild: Ryan Walsh and his wife Carolyn Coons Walsh, Neil Walsh, Amanda Walsh, Larissa Walsh and her daughter Athena and Quinton Walsh. He is also survived by his five loving siblings and their families: James F Walsh and his wife Dinah of Newtown, Kevin P Walsh and his wife Sandra of Fairfield, Sharon Brace and her husband David of Sewell, NJ, Colleen Mars and her husband Christopher of Scarborough, ME and Mary Kathleen Ceballos and her husband Julio of Atlanta Georgia. Mike is also survived by his in-laws Anthony L. Bonacci and his wife Nina of Orange, CT and their three children Tony T. Bonacci and his wife Ellen, Anna-Maria Bonacci Craun and her husband Mark and Judy Bonacci Drenzek and her husband Ronald. He is also survived by his twenty cherished nieces and nephews: James and Nicholas Walsh; Kyle and Cory Walsh; Heather Brace Lowther, David, Margaret, and Katie Brace; Logan, Shannon, Regan and Nathan Mars; Allexa, Connor and Cooper Ceballos; Stephanie and Brian Bonacci; Allen and Mark Drenzek and Danielle Drenzek Jacques.

Mike was a 1975 graduate of Immaculate High School in Danbury where he was an honors student and excelled as shortstop for the varsity baseball team. Mike was also a 1979 graduate of Sacred Heart University where he majored in Psychology and where he met the love-of-his-life Nina Bonacci. Mike’s passions included spending time with his family, enjoying sports - especially watching his children compete, fixing and restoring cars with his sons, listening to classic rock and jazz music, celebrating his Irish-American heritage, babysitting for his granddaughter Athena, taking hikes throughout Connecticut and enjoying a laugh and a good meal with family and friends. He will also be fondly remembered for his high energy and strong work ethic and for his zany sense of humor and fun-loving wardrobe including his playful tee shirts and his signature Irish tweed cap. He will be sorely missed.

Visitation hours will be held from 5-7pm on Monday April 2, 2018 at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St. Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday April 3, 2018 at 10:30am at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Rd, Newtown.
