Obituary for Morgan Roberts

Morgan was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Denver, Colorado on June 19, 1970. He died unexpectedly but peacefully at his home in Norwich, Connecticut on June 20, 2018 of natural causes.
He grew up in Jefferson City, Missouri, graduating with honors from Jefferson City High School wherein he was on officer and tenor saxophone player in its nationally-recognized high school band. He won a national jazz award, among other prizes and awards upon graduation. He was a talented writer who acquired publishing credits before graduation in 1988. That fall, he attended Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont, graduating in 1992. He experienced a Field Work term at The Atlantic Monthly in Boston, a summer with Cahner’s Publishing in London and after graduation in New York City. He was at Publishers’ Weekly for several years, and then moved to Matthew-Bender in NYC.
In 1994, he also married Amy Elizabeth Bohlman of Rumson, New Jersey. The couple moved to Brooklyn, New York, and then to Newtown, Connecticut. Three children were born to Amy and Morgan, and Morgan became a stay-at-home dad—a role that he relished. He also taught himself, Japanese, developing an appreciation for Japanese films and the game of “Go”. He also acquired an appreciation for cooking.
After the couple divorced in 2009, in 2011, Morgan attended Antioch University in Keene, New Hampshire, graduating with a counseling master degree. After licensure and certification, he became a full-time psychotherapist, especially skilled with difficult trauma situations.
Morgan had a deep capacity to care for others. First, he loved his children, then his extended family and many friends. He loved films that carried the human message; he had an appreciation for the craft of film-making on many levels, and enjoyed a brush, with film-making, himself. He loved music from classical to many levels of groups such as “The Ramones” to “Iron Maiden.”
He is survived by his children, Maxwell Henry Beeson Roberts, 17,Oscar Charles Roberts, 13, and Lola Rose Roberts, 11; his parents Iris and Timothy Roberts of Newry, Maine; and Aunt and Uncle, Becky and Stephen H. Buchholz of Jefferson City, Missouri; two cousins Anne Elizabeth Bennett and husband Kevin and three children, Maddox, Mersadee, and Memphis of Kansas City, Missouri, and Christopher Philip Buchholz and wife, Lisa of Montclair, New Jersey.
A private family service will be held at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Connecticut 06470. Memorials may be sent to: Roberts Children’s Educational Fund, % Roberts Family Trust, Timothy R. and Iris Roberts, Trustees, P.O. Box 292, Newry, ME 04261.
He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
