Obituary for Patricia Catherine "Pat, Patty" Pineau (Walsh)

Patricia Catherine "Pat, Patty" Pineau (Walsh)
Patricia Pineau, 74, of Southbury died unexpectedly December 27. She was born March 31, 1941, in Hanover, N.H, a daughter of the late Prudence Barber and John Walsh.

Her loving sons Randall, and his wife Katherine, of Sandy Hook and Michael of Houston; daughter-in-law Betty of Oxford; her cherished grandsons, Ryan, Daniel, Connor, Gabriel, and Cory; her loving sisters and husbands Brenda and Gerry, Joan, Denise and Ed, and Tammy and Dave; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews survive Ms Pineau. Her sister Jayne; father-in-law, Albert; and mother-in-law, Rose, predeceased her.

Ms Pineau worked for several years as an office assistant for ophthalmologist Dr Irwin Sarkin in Norwalk. When he retired, she worked as an administrative assistant for Video Radio Yesteryear (aka Reel Images) in Bethel, a job she enjoyed for the great friendships and daily humor shared by all who worked there. She later worked as a customer service representative with The Taunton Press in Newtown, before retiring.

She was an accomplished quilter and crafter, and lovingly made quilts and dolls for her family and friends. She also taught doll making classes and was revered for her creative talents and her use of bright, colorful fabrics. The family enjoyed receiving her handcrafted greeting cards. She loved birds, including her beloved parrot and cockatiel, and many little finches.

Ms Pineau also loved going to see movies on the big screen. She was an early adopter of the lesser-known independent movies. She enjoyed visiting Vermont, where she would drive through covered bridges and take in the mountainous scenery, taking walks, and listening to classic shows and radio programs. The radio was always tuned to NPR, and British entertainment was often playing on the TV. Monty Python was sure to produce a genuine belly laugh — and she could also be found telling a silly joke or sharing something funny that made her laugh out loud.

Ms Pineau also had a passion for gardening, both indoor and out. Her green thumb was sure to provide a long, healthy life for any plant in her care. Her home was a shrine for all of her beautiful crafts, quilted wall hangings, and thriving plants. Scented candles and soothing aromatics always greeted visitors.

A memorial celebration is scheduled for Saturday, January 9, from 1 to 3 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sjogren’s Syndrome Foundation at www.sjogrens.org.
