Robert Bradford “Bob” Jones, 87, of Sandy Hook, CT and Brewster, MA, died on January 23, 2018 at Maplewood at Stony Hill. Bob was born in Brockton, MA on September 11, 1930, son of the late James B. Jones and the late Lillian J. Jones. Bob grew up in Whitman, MA where he pursued his love of sports and excelled at Whitman High. He spent a year at Wilbraham Academy preparatory before attending and graduating from Brown University, where he played on the football team. Bob was drafted into the Army during the Korean War at which time he attended Officer Candidate School and attained the rank of Second Lieutenant. His career as an insurance underwriter brought him from Massachusetts, to Connecticut, to Virginia, and back to Connecticut. He continued to enjoy sports throughout his life, transitioning from his football years to skiing, tennis, and working out at the gym. After retirement, Bob settled in Brewster on Cape Cod where he shared many cherished years with Patricia McLeod.
Bob is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Theresa Jones of Sandy Hook, CT; son Brian Jones of Hollywood, FL; son and daughter-in-law Thomas and Kimberly Jones of Freeport, ME: and four grandchildren, Caitlin, Liam, and Nathaniel Jones, and Blake Jones. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Pearce and Hazel Burns. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7:00pm Friday January 26, 2018 in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, CT. Calling hours will be Friday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Private burial will be at Colbrook Cemetery, Whitman, Massachusetts at the convenience of the family.
