Obituary for Stanley Hepburn "Stan" Schoonmaker

Stanley H. Schoonmaker of Newtown died peacefully at home January 11, 2011. Born January 4, 1930 in Danbury to Angelina Vanhooser Bell and Henry Schoonmaker, he is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Connie Schoonmaker; sons Gary Zenobia and wife Mary of Monroe, Wayne Schoonmaker and wife Lynn of Danbury, daughter Gail Miller and husband Bob of Sparta, TN. Step-sons Alan Moore and wife Nancy of Newtown, Andy Moore and wife Cathy of Danbury, step-daughter Linda Moore of Poughkeepsie, NY and daughter-in-law Dale Cigna Nolan of Waterbury. He is also survived by grandchildren; Megan Zenobia, Scott and Amy Schoonmaker, Amanda and Albie Lounsbury, Benjamin and Harrison Moore, Sara and Michael Andriello, Mikaela and Samantha Pruneau, Meggen and Lee Cigna Jr. Great-grandchildren; Cheyenne and Alecia Gudenkauf, Jeremiah and Chloe Lounsbury, Jeffrey and Jemecca Perkins and Lee Cigna. He is pre-deceased by his 2nd wife Dolores Hawes Schoonmaker, son Lee K. Cigna and great-grand daughter Olivia Grace Lounsbury.
Stan was employed by Heli-Coil Corporation retiring after 45 years as head of the engineering lab. He was a friend of Bill Wilson for more than 20 years. A great lover of trains and trolleys he graciously volunteered his time at the Danbury Railway Museum. Stan enjoyed football and was an avid Giants fan. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Danbury and Newtown Congregational Church and a member and Past Master of Masonic Temple #40 in Danbury. Stan’s greatest passion came through his love of music. Stan “The Drummer Man” was a member of the Kenny Lee Band for over 50 years and always enjoyed playing his drums and singing at public functions, weddings and special celebrations.
Friends may call in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St., Newtown Tuesday January 18, 2011 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. A Memorial Service and a Masonic Service will take place immediately following at the funeral home.
