Obituary for Thomas Langdon "Tom" McDonald

Thomas L McDonald II age 54, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 6, 2014 in Crofton, Maryland. He was born May 18, 1959 in Bridgeport Connecticut to Elizabeth (Metzger) Doty of Sandy Hook and the late Thomas L McDonald. Tom graduated from Immaculate High School, attended St Anslems College, and graduated from the Bridgeport School of Engineering.
Tom worked in various capacities in the Aerospace Industry for the past 15 years. Tom was employed at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington D.C. as an Analytical Engineer where he received many accolades from the Secretary of the Navy for his Aerospace work. His many projects included the Hubble Telescope, numerous satellites, and most recently, the International Space Station. He was an active member of the Maryland Antique Radio Club, The Maryland Rocket Association, and was an active Ham Radio Operator.
Tom was also preceded in death by his brother Christopher Scott McDonald, and sister, Bridget Ann McDonald. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother David S McDonald of Lake Leelanau, Mi., his sister, Marybeth (Jeff) Glen of Hudson OH., his brother Sean (Glenda) McDonald of Danielson, his sister Megan (Paul) Darragh of Southbury, and his sister Elizabeth Doty of Sandy Hook. He will be dearly missed by his many nephews and nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, Southbury Wednesday May 14th at 11:00am. Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery, Sandy Hook. Friends may call Wednesday morning from 10:00am to 11:00am in the daily chapel of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Tom’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org Funeral arrangements are in care of the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
