Obituary for Vladimir "Val" Reichenbach

Vladimir "Val" Reichenbach, 62, of Newtown, died March 17, following a long illness. Born on May 24, 1947, in New York City, he was the son of William and Mary Reichenbach.

He was best known for his long career as key hair stylist for ABC daytime television, where he was lead stylist for such well know soaps as All My Children, Guiding Light and Ryan's Hope. Mr Reichenbach received three Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Achievement in Hairstyling for a Drama Series," for All My Children.

"Receiving an Emmy is like 'nothing else you can imagine, it's just great to be nominated, but then to win, well that's even better,'" Mr Reichenbach told a news reporter following his seventh Emmy nomination and third consecutive win.

Mr Reichenbach was also hairstylist for episodes of popular television shows including Regis and Kelly, Saturday Night Live, and Good Morning America.

He knew the actors and actresses personally as he styled their hair on the sets of the many shows and daytime dramas. He has been credited for styling of stars such as Luciano Pavarotti, Carol Burnett, and Susan Lucci.

In recent years he was a master hairstylist for Adam Broderick Salon & Spa in Ridgefield. Mr Reichenbach was greatly respected by his many clients and fellow stylists. His outlook on everyday beauty was "Everybody can be glamorous at any age."

Mr Reichenbach's convivial nature was always apparent in his ready smile and laugh.

He moved to Newtown 17 years ago to escape the big city life. Considered by him to be "family", his close friends Vincent Capuano and Charles Burke moved to Newtown in 2003, also from Manhattan, and continued their long friendship with Mr Reichenbach.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him for his zest for life, and always be remembered as a dear friend to so many.
