Obituary for Thomas C Campbell

Thomas C. Campbell of Brookfield passed away on January 19th from Leukemia. Born in Chatham, New Jersey, Tom moved to Connecticut in 1970. He was 68 years old. Tom had the time and inclination to write his own obituary. This is what he wrote:
"I have been a world traveler, gourmand, Civil War historian, Wall Street executive, Antique Dealer/Collector, published author, genealogist, artist and passionate about fine sports cars, but the proudest and most significant accomplishment in my life was to be the husband of Janie. Side by side for 35 years, she made me laugh, loved me and together we had a wonderful, wonderful life. If you don't know Janie, seek her out and befriend her and you will understand my love for her and how lucky she made me.
I leave a brother Bud Campbell of Arizona whose love was always a great comfort to me and a sister, Janet Clark of New York State who is bravely facing her own challenges. I also leave many nieces and nephews. Janie and I traveled a very difficult journey over the past few years fighting leukemia. The extraordinary care and support we received got us through it until the final resolution. The Hawleyville Post Office staff, Mark, Laura, Rich made me funny cards that gave me many a good laugh and were always there to help us through the tough times. My friends Pearse Leonard in Northern Ireland and Andrew Voegeli in Scotland kept my email box filled with news, funny stories, love and support. I always looked forward to seeing my dear friend Nancy Chapman, our art class instructor at Ann's Place and the beautiful smiles of my art class friends, all with cancer having touched their lives. The art class became family to me and I treasured their company! They all helped Janie and I each and every day. I also appreciated the kindness and friendship of Lynn Crager who tenderly cared for my soul. Words can't describe the inner peace she bestowed upon me. Heartwarming to both Janie and I was the continuous stream of love and support from my beloved nieces Karen and Kim and their mother, my lifelong friend, Ginny. There are dozens and dozens of friends who formed a circle of love and support to ease our pain. Our hearts are filled with gratitude.
It was always so uplifting to be looked after by the fabulous nursing staff at Danbury Hospital on the 11th floor as well as by Dr. Bob Cooper and his wonderful nurse Leah Cunningham. They took such good care of me, made me laugh and were my friends!! Another special Doctor who spent hours and hours teaching me about leukemia and sitting by my bedside was Dr. Omar Buddu, one of the best friends I've ever had. Additionally, we are so grateful to Dr. Papadopoulos, Dr. Tallman and Dr. Voight of Memorial Sloan Kettering and their dedicated team for their kindness and exceptional care. I am so honored to have shared my life in some way with these lovely people".
To those who love me, don't weep, but celebrate my life. "Death is just another adventure of living"
