Ruth Mary Porter

I, Ruth Mary Porter of Glen Ellyn, IL met Nancy for the first time in Geneva, Switzerland at the hotel where the CT Over the Hill Gang ski club was staying. My late husband Hobie and I were on the verge of leaving for O'Hare airport when our limousine drove in the driveway and the phone rang at the same time. The call was from United Airlines informing us the cancellation of our flight to New York City to join the CT ski club because of a snowstorm in NYC. Hobie made some frantic calls asking for possibility of flying to Geneva by other airlines. Within a half hour we were lucky to be able to fly to Geneva with a stopover in Preswick, Scotland. The limousine driver stayed faithfully to transport us to the airport and didn't charge for a long wait. We didn't make it on time to join the Ski Club at the airport in Geneva but took a taxi to the hotel which cost us 75 dollars for a short trip to the hotel!!! Met Nancy and Don and the rest at the hotel on time to go out to eat with them. That was our first trip with the CT club which we joined so we could take ski trips overseas. (We belonged to the over the Hill Gang Ski Club in Chicago). When I first met Nancy, I realized how fortunate I was because we both were Handicapped . Nancy medically and I physically due to my deafness since birth. We hit it off and stayed good friends. We had visited with them at their home in Sandy Hook and at their cabin up north in the woods of Minnesota. And they had stated at our house in Glen Ellyn, too. Don would drop off Nancy at our house before going up north for fishing with Hobie going along. Nancy and I always had a good time going antiquing, visiting museums, eating out, shopping, etc. Nancy had a cute sense of humor. I want you, Don to know how much I am going to miss my true friend. Love Ruth Mary
