JoAnn Stewart Landon (Joni)

I always wanted a sister. I had a wonderful brother, but I wanted a sister. Five years after my father's death, Mom married Dad and I hit the jackpot - I got 2 sisters! Nancy was a year older than I and came to live with us when she was a sophomore in high school. She was quick to fit in with her classmates, and did well in school. At home, she had to adjust to all of the newness of Mom's rules and a very full house. Jacky, Nancy and I shared a room - thankfully with a big closet! Although we didn't have a lot of clothes, we never shared so there were no fights over clothes. Nancy loved the popular music of the day and always had the radio on or a record on the phonograph. One funny story, she came into the living room one evening with the newest shoe polish (yes, we polished saddle shoes in those days) and Mom promptly told her to take it to the kitchen. Nancy put a layer of newspaper on the floor, sat down with"I won't spill it". Of course, she promptly spilled it and black liquid shoe polish on Mom's carpet didn't go over well! From then on she polished her shoes in the kitchen! Nancy was a great sister to me. We joined church together, attended Youth Fellowship together and went to football games together - until she got a boyfriend! It was fun to have a "big sister". I am far away, but will always be at the end of a phone line, Don, Debbie and Laurie. We will all miss her.
